If you are building a home gym, you will
need a variety of machines, or go with a universal setup. I have a
variety and it is what I would recommend if you have the space for it.
But if space is a limiting factor, go for a universal machine.
If you plan on working out by yourself,
invest in a powerbox or power rack to save yourself from needing a spot.
Go to
Mega Fitness .com
and search for power rack, I like the MegaTuff Elite power rack, but
they also have one for $3000 that is a good starter system that folds up
to less than 2 feet and comes with a bench and weight stack from 300lb
or 400lbs.
A dumbbell rack with a complete set of
dumbbells allows you to hit a wide variety of muscles. You can find
dumbbells here
TheSportsAuthority.com ,
just search for dumbbell is the search box provided
A hack squat or inverted leg press is necessary to
build your quads, along with a leg extension that reverses so you can do
your hamstrings. Go to
Mega Fitness .com
and enter angled leg press in the search box towards the right side of
the page, it gives a wide variety of leg presses including hack squat
leg presses, I personally like the angled press better because it gives
less strain on my lower back.
The lat pull down machine is great, it
allows for doing your back from many different angles, triceps, and even
biceps with many different extensions available. To find one of these go
to
Mega Fitness .com
and search for lat pull down, it gives many machines but the
Power Half Cage with Lat Pull Down and Pec
